WHO, ME?
GO TO SUNDAY SCHOOL?

If it's been a long time since you attended Sunday School, the idea of it might seem a bit --scary. Maybe you have a few misconceptions about Adult Sunday School that could be keeping you away.

MYTH #1 Only religious fanatics join Sunday School.
Bible Sunday and Adult Sunday School is for everyone. Wherever you are in your walk of faith, gathering weekly with a small group of adults to read and discuss the Bible can be a source of spiritual growth and renewal. It also provides a chance for fellowship and sharing of our needs and concerns.

MYTH #2 The Bible doesn't relate to my life today.
Although written long ago, the Bible is timeless in its ability to speak directly to the human heart. Its message of God's love for each of us is as fresh today as when it was first spoken to a nomadic herdsman four thousand years ago. Adult Sunday School makes the Bible accessible with enhanced understanding of its historical context.

MYTH #3 I don't have time for Bible Study.
We all lead busy lives. Many of us have found that reading the Scriptures regularly provides a necessary "time-out" from the business of everyday life. The lessons we use for Adult Sunday School are short. About twenty minutes a week is enough to cover the material. Classes meet between the services, for the convenience of all members.

MYTH #4 I don't know enough about the Bible to contribute.
You don't have to! The Word of God speaks directly to each of us in unique ways. We each bring our own ideas, hopes and concerns to the readings. Wonderful things happen when a group of adults share their unique perspectives--and we all grow in the knowledge and love of God.

MYTH #5 The lesson plans are hard to follow.
We are basing all our readings on the lectionary--the same Old Testament, Psalms, Epistle and Gospel readings used each week in Sunday services. Just by reading these, you will be "caught up" with the rest of the group. There you can voice your own questions, thoughts and concerns about the week's readings.

OKAY! I'm interested in Sunday School. How do I start?
Just show up! Bring your own Bible if you like,or feel free to use one of the Bibles provided. The materials we are using are short--a single sheet handout. We are able to copy them freely, so there will always be enough to go around. Drop-ins are welcome. Join us any Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:15 in the Parish Hall. We hope you can join us.
